El president de la Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, s’ha reunit avui amb el ministre-president de Flandes, Jan Jambon, a qui li ha agraït el seu suport a l’oficialitat del català a les institucions europees, especialment ara que Bèlgica presideix el Consell de la Unió Europea.

“Vull agrair públicament al ministre-president Jambon el seu suport al reconeixement del català a les institucions europees”, ha afirmat el president en la compareixença conjunta posterior a la trobada que han mantingut al Palau de la Generalitat.

El cap de l’Executiu ha destacat que el Govern de la Generalitat continua la seva tasca diplomàtica per “sumar aliats” al reconeixement del català a la Unió Europea, i que el suport de Flandes és molt important perquè “allò que no es va acabar de complir durant la presidència espanyola continuï estant sobre la taula i s’acceleri durant la presidència belga” del Consell de la UE.

Aragonès ha assegurat que la trobada amb el ministre-president Jambon “certifica l’excel·lent relació d’amistat i de complicitat entre Catalunya i Flandes, dues nacions europees que compartim una forta afinitat, però sobretot una voluntat de col·laboració molt sòlida”.

Ha explicat que aquesta relació històrica està fixada en l’acord de col·laboració que tenen els dos governs des del 2008, i tindrà continuïtat amb l’elaboració del pla de treball per al període 2025-2027. Aquest pla inclourà els reptes estratègics que comparteixen Flandes i Catalunya, com la ciberseguretat, la cultura digital, el suport a les start-ups, els semiconductors, la fotònica, la tecnologia quàntica, l’hidrogen verd, la política marina i l’economia blava.

A més, el president Aragonès ha assenyalat que Flandes i Catalunya tenen una “clara vocació internacional”. En aquest sentit, ha defensat que “nacions com les nostres, han de jugar un paper clau a les institucions europees en defensa dels interessos dels ciutadans dels nostres territoris, per incidir en les polítiques de la Unió Europea i contribuir a encarar els grans reptes de futur del continent”.

A pocs dies que es compleixin dos anys de la invasió russa d’Ucraïna, el president de la Generalitat ha tornat a mostrar la solidaritat de Catalunya amb el poble ucraïnès i amb els ciutadans russos que lluiten contra el règim de Vladimir Putin. Per això, ha expressat el seu suport a l’entorn de l’opositor rus Aleksei Navalni, que va ser assassinat en una presó russa. “Estem al costat també de tots aquells ciutadans de Rússia que defensen la democràcia al seu país davant de la tirania de Putin”.

Today, the President of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, met with the Minister-President of Flanders, Jan Jambon, whom he thanked for his support for the official recognition of Catalan in European institutions, especially now that Belgium holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union.

“I would like to publicly thank Minister-President Jambon for his support for the recognition of Catalan in European institutions”, said the President in a joint press conference following the meeting they held at the Palau de la Generalitat.

Aragonès emphasised that the Government of Catalonia is continuing its diplomatic efforts to “gain allies” for the recognition of Catalan in the European Union and that the support of Flanders is crucial to ensure that “what was not fully accomplished during the Spanish presidency continues to be on the table and is expedited during the Belgian presidency” of the EU Council.

Aragonès assured that the meeting with Minister-President Jambon “is evidence of the excellent relationship of friendship and complicity between Catalonia and Flanders, two European nations that share a strong affinity, but above all, a very firm willingness to collaborate”.

He explained that this historical relationship is enshrined in the collaboration agreement that the two governments have had since 2008 and will continue with the drawing up of a work plan for the 2025-2027 period. This plan will include the strategic challenges shared by Flanders and Catalonia, such as cybersecurity, digital culture, support for start-ups, semiconductors, photonics, quantum technology, green hydrogen, marine policy and the blue economy.

Furthermore, President Aragonès pointed out that Flanders and Catalonia have a “clear international outlook”. In this regard, he argued that “nations like ours must play a key role in European institutions to defend the interests of the citizens of our territories, to influence European Union policies, and to contribute to addressing the major future challenges of the continent”.

Just a few days before the second anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the President of Generalitat once again showed solidarity with the Ukrainian people and with the Russian citizens who are fighting against the regime of Vladimir Putin. For this reason, he expressed his support for people like Russian opposition leader Aleksei Navalny, who was assassinated in a Russian prison. ”We stand alongside all those citizens of Russia who defend democracy in their country against the tyranny of Putin”.
