• Enguany se celebra el 25è aniversari de l’obertura de l’Oficina del Parlament Europeu a Barcelona
• “Hem estat defensant, continuem defensant i defensarem la presència del català com a llengua oficial a la Unió Europea”, ha afirmat el cap de l’Executiu
The President of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès i Garcia, accompanied by the Minister for Foreign Action and European Union, Meritxell Serret i Aleu, attended a ceremony to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the opening of the European Parliament’s office in Barcelona, At the event, held in the auditorium of La Pedrera, he stated that Catalonia is a pro-European society: “Catalonia is a country committed to Europe”,adding that Europe “is part of our identity, of our most essential values”.He went on to stress that “Europe, without a doubt, is the priority area of Catalonia’s foreign action”.
At the event, which celebrates 25 years of the European Parliament’s office in the city of Barcelona, President Aragonès highlighted “the commitment of the institutions of Catalonia to the European institutions through this joint endeavour”. A commitment that has been carried out “over many, many years, many decades, since we recovered self-government”. Aragonès said that building strong relations has been a “priority task” and added that in some areas such as energy and technological sovereignty, relations have been intensified.
President Aragonès referred to the upcoming European elections on 9 June, acknowledging that “they will be important for Europe”,as “Europe faces many challenges in the geopolitical sphere, as well as a need to strengthen economic growth”, the aim of which would be that “Europe continue to be an umbrella not only for the rights and freedoms of the citizens of Catalonia, but also for progress and economic prosperity”.
With regard to the official status of Catalan in Europe, Aragonès stressed that “we have been defending and will continue to defend the presence of Catalan as an official language in the European Union”,arguing that Catalan is a language spoken by more than 10 million European citizens and that “it has all the characteristics and meets all the requirements for it to be used fully in all European institutions”. Furthermore, he stated his belief that this official status “is a question of linguistic equality; it is not a question of favourable treatment, it is not a privilege”.
Finally, the President of the Generalitat pointed out that “we have a war being fought on European soil due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine” and as such Aragonès stressed the commitment of the Government of the Generalitat “to the people of Ukraine, to its sovereignty, to its territorial integrity, to its independence”.
The event was also attended by the Head of the Office of the European Parliament in Barcelona, Sergi Barrera, and the President of the European Parliament between 2002 and 2004, Pat Cox.
El president de la Generalitat, Pere Aragonès i Garcia, acompanyat de la consellera d'Acció Exterior i Unió Europea, Meritxell Serret i Aleu, ha assistit a l'acte de commemoració del 25è aniversari de l'Oficina del Parlament Europeu a Barcelona a l’Auditori de la Pedrera, on ha declarat que Catalunya és una societat europeista, “Catalunya és un país compromès amb Europa”, afegint que Europa, “forma part de la nostra identitat, dels nostres valors més essencials”. En aquesta línia ha remarcat que “Europa, sense cap mena de dubte, és l'àmbit prioritari de l'acció exterior de Catalunya” .
L’acte, que celebra el 25 aniversari de l’oficina del Parlament Europeu a la ciutat de Barcelona, el cap de l’Executiu ha destacat “el compromís de les institucions de Catalunya amb les institucions europees amb aquest treball conjunt”. Un compromís que s’ha dut a terme “al llarg de molts i molts anys, de moltes dècades, des que vam recuperar l'autogovern”. Aragonès ha manifestat que crear unes relacions fortes ha estat un “treball prioritari” i ha afegit que en alguns àmbits com el de la sobirania energètica i tecnològica s’han intensificat
El president Aragonès ha fet referència a les propers eleccions Europees del 9 de juny on reconeix que “seran importants per a Europa”, ja que afirma que “Europa afronta molts reptes des de l'àmbit geopolític, també des del necessari enfortiment del creixement econòmic”, amb l’objectiu que “Europa continuï sent aquell paraigües no només de drets i llibertats pels ciutadans de Catalunya, sinó també de progrés i de prosperitat econòmica” ha reblat.
Pel que fa a l’oficialitat del català a Europa, Aragonès ha destacat que “hem estat defensant, continuem defensant i defensarem la presència del català com a llengua oficial a la Unió Europea” argumentant que el català és una llengua parlada per més de 10 milions de ciutadans europeus i que” té totes les característiques i compleix tots els requisits perquè pugui ser utilitzada en tots els trets en plenitud a les institucions europees”. A més, el cap de l’Executiu creu que aquesta oficialitat “´és una qüestió d'igualtat lingüística, no és cap tracte de favor, no és cap privilegi”.
Finalment el president de la Generalitat ha volgut recordar que “ tenim una guerra en territori europeu a causa de la invasió russa d'Ucraïna” i és per això que Aragonès ha manifestat el compromís del Govern de la Generalitat “amb el poble d'Ucraïna, amb la seva sobirania, amb la seva integritat territorial, amb la seva independència”.
A l’acte també ha assistit el Cap de l'Oficina del Parlament Europeu a Barcelona, Sergi Barrera i el president del Parlament Europeu entre els anys 2002 i 2004, Pat Cox.
