El president de la Generalitat, Pere Aragonès Garcia, i la consellera d’Acció Exterior i Unió Europea, Meritxell Serret i Aleu, han mantingut aquesta tarda dues reunions d’alt nivell amb la Comissió Europea a Brussel·les per reforçar la col·laboració amb l’executiu de la Unió Europea. Unes trobades que se sumen a la que aquest matí Aragonès i la consellera Mas han tingut amb el comissari Gentiloni i que, en paraules del president, suposen “la recuperació plena de la relació entre la Generalitat de Catalunya i la Comissió Europea”.

En concret, Aragonès i Serret s’han reunit amb la vicepresidenta de la Comissió Europea i responsable de Democràcia i Demografia, Dubravka Šuica, i la comissària europea de Cohesió i Reformes, Elisa Ferreira.

Tal com ha explicat Serret en una atenció als mitjans de comunicació posterior a les dues trobades, les reunions són “una clara contribució i implicació de Catalunya al projecte europeu”. “Estem tenint una màxima interlocució amb les institucions europees”, ha afegit la consellera.

Aragonès i Serret han explicat a la comissària Šuica les polítiques del Govern per transitar cap a una societat més longeva, un repte que afronta el conjunt de la Unió Europea i que és una prioritat per l’executiu català. En concret, li han exposat les mesures que ha adoptat la Generalitat per adaptar-se a l’increment significatiu del pes social de les persones grans a la societat catalana.

Amb la comissària Šuica també han tractat el compromís de la Generalitat per fer front als discursos xenòfobs de cara a les eleccions europees que tindran lloc el pròxim mes de juny. “Hem estat d'acord que hem de combatre tots aquells discursos xenòfobs que intenten associar la immigració amb aspectes negatius per trencar la convivència”, ha dit la consellera.

Sobre la reunió amb la comissària Ferreira, la consellera ha subratllat la importància de les iniciatives euromediterrànies de la Generalitat, com la macroregió mediterrània, que vol fer front a reptes comuns com l’emergència climàtica. “És una estratègia que fa valdre el Mediterrani i el futur d'Europa, i que ens permet alinear esforços”, ha declarat Serret.

A les reunions també s’ha tractat l’oficialitat del català a les institucions europees. Serret ha destacat que “és un tema que posem sobre la taula, amb la disposició de col·laborar, cooperar i contribuir a fer sòlida la proposta”. Des de fa mesos, el Govern treballa en la tramesa d’informació a les institucions europees per esvair dubtes sobre els costos i els procediments administratius.

Demà, una nova reunió amb el vicepresident de la Comissió Europea

L'agenda del president Aragonès i de la consellera Serret segueix demà a Brussel·les. Ambdós mantindran una trobada amb el vicepresident de la Comissió Europea i responsable del Pacte Verd Europeu, Relacions Interinstitucionals i Prospectiva, Maroš Šefčovič.

A més, Aragonès participarà en la conferència organitzada pel Caucus per l’Autodeterminació, el grup d’eurodiputats del Parlament Europeu que planteja un mecanisme europeu de claredat perquè les nacions sense estat de la Unió Europea puguin exercir l’autodeterminació. La titular d’Exteriors participarà a la tarda (a partir de les 15 h) al debat sobre prioritats de la presidència belga del Consell de la Unió en la sessió plenària del Comitè de les Regions, que es podrà seguir en línia.

14 trobades amb 10 membres de la Comissió Europea en menys de dos anys

Reprendre la interlocució directa amb governs, organismes internacionals i les institucions europees és una prioritat pel Govern. Amb aquest viatge, l’executiu català haurà fet en menys de dos anys fins a 14 trobades amb 10 membres de la Comissió Europea.

Durant la jornada d’avui, el president també s’ha reunit amb el comissari europeu d’Economia, Paolo Gentiloni. Ho ha fet acompanyat de la consellera Mas Guix i del secretari d’Acció Exterior del Govern, Miquel Royo.

The President of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Pere Aragonès i Garcia, and the Minister for Foreign Action and European Union, Meritxell Serret i Aleu, held two high-level meetings this afternoon with the European Commission in Brussels to reinforce collaboration with the European Union's executive. Specifically, Aragonès and Serret met with the European Commission Vice-President for Democracy and Demography, Dubravka Šuica, and the European Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, Elisa Ferreira.

As Serret explained in a press conference following the two meetings, the meetings demonstrate "the clear contribution and involvement of Catalonia in the European project". "We are engaging in extensive dialogue with the European institutions," said the minister.

Aragonès and Serret outlined to Commissioner Šuica the government's policies aimed at transitioning towards a society with an ageing population, a challenge faced by the entire European Union and a priority for the Catalan Government. Specifically, they explained the measures that the Generalitat de Catalunya has adopted to adapt to the significant increase in the demographic share of older people in Catalan society.

They also discussed with Commissioner Šuica the commitment of the Catalan Government to confront xenophobic discourse in the run-up to the European elections scheduled for next June. "We agreed on the need to combat all xenophobic discourses that attempt to associate immigration with negative aspects in order to undermine coexistence," said the minister.

Regarding the meeting with Commissioner Ferreira, the minister emphasised the importance of the Generalitat de Catalunya’s Euro-Mediterranean, such as the Mediterranean macroregion, which aims to address common challenges such as the climate emergency. "It is a strategy that emphasises the importance of the Mediterranean and the future of Europe, and that allows us to align our efforts," declared Serret.

The official status of Catalan in European institutions was also discussed at the meetings. Serret stressed that "this is a topic that we bring to the table, with a willingness to collaborate, cooperate, and contribute to solidifying the proposal". For months now, the Government has been working on the process of providing information to European institutions to clarify doubts about the costs and administrative procedures involved.

Tomorrow, another meeting with the Vice-president of the European Commission

The agenda of President Aragonès and Minister Serret continues tomorrow in Brussels. Both will hold a meeting with the Vice-President of the European Commission and head the European Green Deal, Interinstitutional Relations and Foresight, Maroš Šefčovič.

Aragonès will also participate in the conference organised by the Self-Determination Caucus, the group of Members of the European Parliament advocating for a European mechanism of clarity so that the stateless nations of the EU can exercise self-determination. The Minister for Foreign Action will take part in the afternoon (from 3 pm) in the debate on the priorities of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the Union in the plenary session of the Committee of the Regions, which can be followed online.

The Government's priority is to re-establish direct dialogue with governments, international organisations and European institutions. With this trip, the Catalan government will have held up to 14 meetings with 10 members of the European Commission in less than two years.
